Job Description

This role encompasses diverse responsibilities, primarily delivering comprehensive support for various audio-visual technologies utilized in classrooms and major event spaces. Additionally, the IT Support Specialist manages daily school events' technical logistics, maintains the school’s phone system, supports all multi-function printers/copiers, and addresses general helpdesk tickets. This position offers an exciting opportunity for individuals to demonstrate their strong interpersonal and technical skills as they deliver customer-focused support and adeptness in troubleshooting technology.

  • Coordinates and assigns work projects such as converting new computer hardware or software.
  • Evaluate expanding or enhanced computer operations; make recommendations for improvement and upgrades to hardware and software to manage workload and system requirements.
  • Provides technical support—identifying, investigating, and resolving users’ problems with computer software and hardware.
  • Applies knowledge of computer software, hardware, and procedures to solve problems.
  • Collaborates with other employees to research and resolve problems.
  • Collaborates with the tech team to explain errors and/or recommend modifications to computer programs.
  • Arranges service by software or hardware vendors to repair or replace defective products.
  • Prepares reference material for users by drafting operation instructions
  • Develops and communicates department projects and goals.
  • Maintains knowledge of technology innovations and trends.
  • Keeps current on technical advancements by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, and/or participating in professional societies.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 20 pounds unassisted.
  • Communication skills using the spoken and written word.
  • Ability to use a visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard.
  • Finger dexterity is required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard, sorting, etc.
  • Ability to traverse various areas of the facility (including unpaved areas, dirt paths, uneven terrain, etc.) to access all offices and areas of campus.
Working conditions
  • Primarily in an office setting but requires the ability to move throughout campus. Technical support may be located in non-office settings, including out-of-doors.

  • None.
Required education and experience
  • A bachelor’s degree in computer science, related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • At least four years of related experience is required.
  • Experience working in an educational environment is preferred.
Additional eligibility requirements
  • Able to successfully complete CHRI, CORI, and SORI checks.

Schedule

Middlesex is a six day a week residential school with classes Monday through Saturday. Generally, the hours are 8am – 4pm Monday through Friday. However, there will be hours assigned for special events that occur outside of normal office hours.
